Cruises to Antarctica, the Galapagos, South & Central America and South
Pacific during winter. After a spring transatlantic, summer itinerary includes
Scandinavia, the Baltic, Greenland, Iceland, North Cape and Spitsbergen, with
Harwich as home port. Fall cruises visit a variety of ports in the
Mediterranean, Northern African ports along the Red Sea, and Black Sea ports
in Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Turkey.
-
Cabins: 350. Cabins sleep 2 to 4 passengers, plus 2 single cabins. The
cabins have twin beds or a double bed, and some cabins have an upper berth
which can be folded away when not required
or a sofa-bed for a third or fourth person.
There are two wheelchair-accessible cabins, and most of the ship is accessible
by wheelchair, although many ports require tenders to go ashore and may not be
accessible to wheelchair passengers.
All cabins have private bathroom, air-conditioning, TV, and many have a tub
and shower. Most are outside.
-
Dress:
For days: casual sportswear. Although some passengers prefer formal dress at nighttime, a dark
suit or blazer for men and a cocktail dress for women is acceptable. In
Antarctica, an
expedition parka is provided.
In
many destinations, particularly in the Mediterranean and Middle East, there
are religious monuments and buildings where short pants and bare shoulders
are inappropriate.
-
Facilities and Activities:
There are two swimming pools, one with a retractable roof and two Jacuzzis.
Decks have teak steamer chairs for relaxing. Facilities include a health and
beauty spa, three restaurants, library, showroom, and Internet center.
Entertainment is low-keyed, provided by a team of musicians and entertainers.
In Antarctica, inflatable landing crafts are used for sightseeing and landings
ashore. In the Galapagos, the ship anchors off the coast of San Cristobal and
passengers are taken ashore by tenders and local boats for shore
excursions. There is a
lecture and enrichment program, with
guest lecturers from the world of television, politics, science, publishing
and business.
Expedition team members in Antarctica include working biologists,
glaciologist, ornithologists and others active in scientific research.
