- Itineraries: Worldwide. There are 7 to 21-night cruises. Cruise
areas include southern Africa, Indian Ocean islands, Canary
Islands, Mediterranean, Western Europe, Norwegian fjords, North Sea, British
Isles, Greenland, Baltic and Black
Seas. There are transatlantic sailings between the Canary Islands and South America.
- Cabins: 286. There are 224 outside (189 doubles, 17 singles, 18
suites) and 62 inside (12 doubles, 50 singles) cabins. All cabins have
bathrooms with showers; suites also have bathtubs. All have individually
controlled air-conditioning, telephone, mini-bar, tv, radio.
All outside cabins have windows.
- Dining: Three restaurants, an
outdoor dining terrace and several cafes with different ambience. The Lido
Terrace is both a library lounge and the place for late morning breakfast and
afternoon coffee, tea and pastries. The Berlin Restaurant serves three
meals and has two seatings for dinner; the informal Lido seats 162 for buffet
service and offers umbrella-shaded deck dining. The Four
Seasons requires reservations. Cuisine is
international. Vegetarian and other dietary meals are available.
- Dress: Casual during the day. In the evening at the Berlin and Four
Seasons restaurants, dress code is jacket and tie for men, casual elegance for
women. At the Captain's reception and other formal evenings, black tie or dark
suit for men, cocktail dress/pants for women. At the Lido Restaurant, dress
can be casual in the evening.
- Facilities and Activities: There is a two-level ballroom, a cinema,
conference room, library, hairdresser, children's playroom, an outdoor pool, indoor pool and spa with massage, sauna, thalassotherapy, tanning
beds, steam room. There is a putting green, skeet shooting, table tennis,
fitness and craft sessions, lectures, and variety shows. There is music
nightly for dancing, and a piano player entertains in the pub.
There is a physician on board. Onboard languages: German and
English. Most passengers are German, Austrian, and Swiss; Americans and
British make up to 20% of the passenger mix. Currencies on board are the
German mark and Euro. A 13-night music cruise calls in the western
Mediterranean.
- Recent Fares Reported to Us: For an 8-night Mediterranean
cruise: from $3,249 per person for an outside twin or
queen-bed stateroom; $4,395 to $7,065 for deluxe rooms and suites. Children
under 12: 50% of fare if traveling with one adult or 50% of the
additional bed rate if triple or quad. Port charges extra.
To entice more Americans on board, free or low cost air fare from 37 U.S.
gateways and free transfers between airports and the ship are often offered,
10% reduction on cabins. Those arranging their own air can deduct $500 per person
from the cruise fare.
