Arm of Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territory of Canada. On the Great Slave
Lake itinerary passengers take a float plane to and from Goulet Bay, then cruise
to Francoise Bay and Christie Bay and to the town of Snowdrift, a Chipewyan
Dene community, where they can experience
native culture and arts and crafts.
Cabins: 10. Cabins are all outside with a private bath. Some have lower
bunks and some have upper and lower.
Dining: There is an open-seating dining room with one seating. Captain
and crew dine with guests.
Dress: Strictly casual. Bring non-slip footwear since you will be on
and off the vessel into smaller boats several times per day. Long sleeves, long
pants and insect repellent are suggested to discourage mosquitoes on shore visits.
Facilities and Activities: The
vessel explores remote channels and bays whenever possible. A canoe and an
open boat are available for shore excursions, fishing and picnic lunches. No
smoking is allowed except on deck. On the Mackenzie River trip, the cruise
includes stops at communities such as Ft. Simpson, Wrigley, Ft. Norman,
Norman Wells, Ft. Good Hope, Arctic Red River and other historic sites along
the river as it flows northward to the Arctic Ocean. It was formerly A main
route for the fur trade. A ceremony is held at the crossing of the
Arctic Circle, and from Inuvik, passengers are flown to Tuktoyaktuk on the Beaufort
Sea to dip their toes in the Arctic Ocean. On the Great Slave Lake cruise, the
vessel anchors in remote bays and the engines are turned off for the evening
so passengers can experience the tranquility of the nights. In the summer there
are approximately 20 hours of daylight. Days are structured for three to four
hours of cruising plus anchored sightseeing and shore time to hike and view
wildlife such as moose, wolves, bear, bald eagles, peregrine
falcons and other raptors.
